Safeguarding
Safeguarding Statement
MOBIpawa exists to strengthen the independence of persons with disabilities. Nothing about that work is more important than the safety and dignity of the people we serve.
Our commitment
We have zero tolerance for abuse, exploitation, harassment, discrimination, or neglect — in any form, by anyone connected to the program. This includes staff, contractors, volunteers, partners, donors, and other beneficiaries.
What safeguarding means here
We treat the following as safeguarding matters, without exception:
- Physical, emotional, sexual, or financial abuse of a beneficiary.
- Exploitation of a beneficiary's disability, economic situation, or dependence on the program.
- Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind.
- Any request by anyone claiming to represent MOBIpawa for money, favours, or personal information from a beneficiary.
- Any conduct by a person in a position of trust that undermines a beneficiary's safety or dignity.
How to raise a concern
-
Write or call our safeguarding team
Email: safeguarding@mobipawa.org
Phone: +254 700 000 000 -
Or use the contact form
Select "Safeguarding concern" as the topic. Your message goes only to the safeguarding team. -
Or tell any MOBIpawa staff member you trust.
Every staff member is trained to receive a concern and to pass it directly to the safeguarding team without filtering it.
What happens next
- Your report is received by the safeguarding team within 24 hours.
- The team will contact you to acknowledge receipt and, if you wish, take a full statement.
- Where the report concerns a beneficiary, their immediate safety is assessed first.
- Where there is reason to believe a crime has occurred, the police are notified.
- You are told the outcome of the investigation as far as confidentiality permits.
Confidentiality
Safeguarding reports are confidential. We share information only with those who need it to respond — for example, the police, a medical professional, or the safeguarding lead of a partner organisation. We do not share a reporter's identity without consent, unless required by law or where doing so is necessary to protect someone from harm.
Our responsibilities
- Every staff member and contractor is screened before engagement and signs our safeguarding policy.
- Every partner organisation signs a safeguarding agreement before taking part in the program.
- Safeguarding is a standing agenda item at every governance meeting.
- Every concern, every investigation, and every outcome is recorded in a confidential register.
- We review our policy every 12 months, and after any serious incident.
What we will never do
- We will never ask a beneficiary for money at any stage of the program.
- We will never ask for a beneficiary's identity documents by SMS, WhatsApp, or social media.
- We will never publish a beneficiary's personal information without their explicit, revocable consent.
- We will never tolerate retaliation against someone who raises a concern in good faith.
A note for beneficiaries
You are not asking for a favour by reporting a concern. You are helping us keep the program safe for you and for everyone who comes after you. You will not lose your place in the program for reporting a concern in good faith. If anyone tells you otherwise, that person is not acting for MOBIpawa.
This statement is reviewed annually and after every serious incident. The current version applies to all staff, contractors, volunteers, partners, and beneficiaries.
