About MOBIpawa

Mobility is not the destination.
Ownership is.

MOBIpawa equips persons with mobility disabilities in Kenya with a customized motorbike carrier that carries them and their business. Not loaned. Not rented. Owned.

The chain

Access becomes independence

Six links. Each unlocks the next. Break any one, and the chain stops.

1

Access

The equipment barrier is removed.

2

Mobility

The beneficiary moves freely and independently.

3

Ownership

The carrier is legally theirs. No rent, no debt.

4

Opportunity

A route, a market, a plan that was already waiting.

5

Income

Daily earnings begin and compound.

6

Independence

The cycle ends. Autonomy begins.

The problem

Not the one you might expect

The obstacle is not ambition. It is equipment.

The barrier is not ambition

Most beneficiaries we work with already have a route, a market, or a passenger base. They have spent years developing the plan. What they lack is not motivation — it is equipment designed for how they move.

The fix is ownership

A carrier built around a specific person's mobility unlocks a livelihood. Handing over ownership — not renting, not leasing — removes the monthly payment that would otherwise eat the income it produces.

The flywheel

Why the model compounds

Every stage is designed to make the next stage stronger.

Step 1

Apply

Identity, disability status, route plan — verified against real documents.

Step 2

Verify

A person, not an algorithm, reviews every document and calls the applicant.

Step 3

Fundraise

The community contributes to a named campaign. Every shilling is visible.

Step 4

Receive

A carrier customized for the specific mobility need. Not a generic unit.

Step 5

Own

Ownership transfers legally and permanently. Certificate issued.

Step 6

Earn

Income begins. Some beneficiaries later sponsor the next campaign.

The dignity principle

Every screen passes one test

If a sentence fails this, we rewrite it.

"Would I say this to the beneficiary's face?"

We never say

  • "Help this poor disabled person."
  • "Your donation changes a life."
  • "She can't walk, so she needs your help."

We say

  • "Help Amina reach her mobility and livelihood goal."
  • "Your contribution moves Amina one step closer to owning her trike."
  • "She has a plan. She has a route. She has passengers waiting."

Beneficiaries are participants in an economic opportunity ecosystem — not passive recipients of charity.

Hard lines

What we are not

Four things this programme will never become.

Not a charity that gives and moves on.

We stay in the relationship long after handover.

Not a lender.

No interest. No fees. No monthly payments.

Not a rental scheme.

Beneficiaries legally own their carriers.

Not a programme that decides for people.

Beneficiaries plan their own routes and businesses.

Where we are now

Real numbers. Nothing rounded up.

Common questions

Straight answers

Who runs MOBIpawa?

A small team in Kenya working with disability organizations, county offices, and community referrers across the country. We are transparent about governance and financial controls — see our terms and privacy pages.

How is MOBIpawa different from a charity?

A charity gives. MOBIpawa transfers. Beneficiaries are not recipients of charity — they are entrepreneurs with a plan, a route, and passengers waiting. Our job is to remove the equipment barrier so their work can begin.

How do I contact the team?

Use the contact form — we reply within two working days. For safeguarding matters, see the safeguarding page.
